benches Announce New EP 'Kill The Lights,' Out May 23, Following Tour with Inhaler

The fastest rising name in rock music is none other than benches. Following their gig alongside alt-rock band Inhaler on their spring tour and ahead of performances at San Diego's Wonderfront Festival and Chicago's Lollapalooza, the band has announced their forthcoming EP, Kill The Lights, out May 23.
Before heading out on their own headlining tour, the band, comprised of Anson Kelley (vocals/guitar), Ethan Bowers (drums), Evan Ojeda (lead guitar), and Charlie Baird (bass), dropped the title track for the EP in conjunction with the project's announcement.
On the concept behind the title track, Kelley shared, “At its core, the song is about fear. I think it’s a very common feeling to be afraid to make the wrong decision and end up living a life that isn’t in line with what you were hoping for. This song is like an anxiety-driven play-by-play of a worst-case scenario. A life where you made all the wrong decisions and every time you catch a glimpse of the ghost in the rearview, you drive faster in the opposite direction trying to escape it.”
The full project looks to lean into the bands 2000s-influenced indie-rock sound, toeing the line between melancholic and exhilaration. Mixed by GRAMMY-nominated producer Martin Cooke (Death Cab for Cutie, Pearl Jam, HAIM), Kill The Lights will lean deeper into the cinematic precendent set by their earlier singles such as “Monodrama” and “Violent.”
