Laurel Set the Voodoo Room Ablaze on Her First North American Tour

On Wednesday night, the Voodoo Room at House of Blues San Diego was transformed into a gateway into British singer Laurel’s captivating world. Fans traveled from near and far, including one die-hard supporter who flew in from Denver just to witness the magic. As the opening notes of "Deathwish" echoed through the room, Laurel emerged on stage, commanding attention in a blazer, skirt, boots, and her signature clear goggle glasses. The crowd instantly felt her electric presence. The energy surged and never once wavered throughout the entire night, as Laurel, on her first North American tour — the Music For Sunsets Tour — delivered an unforgettable performance that showcased her raw talent and undeniable charisma.

After "Deathwish", she shared a story about spending her morning at the San Diego Marina eating crab cakes—a rare slow start to a tour day, she said with a smile. That peaceful start seemed to set the tone for what came next, “Best I Ever Had,” a track that, as she put it, always reminds her of that kind of calm. The vibe was easy, dreamy, and warm… until she flipped the script. Before “Same Mistakes,” she asked us all to channel our worst heartbreak—to think of the one who “f*cked you over”—and let it out. The crowd became a choir of catharsis, shouting every lyric.

And when “Wild Things” followed, it was euphoric. To scream, “So here we go again, wild things, blazing…” alongside strangers, suddenly felt like freedom. She moved straight into “Fucking You to Death,” her latest single and probably one of the rawest, most mesmerizing songs she’s put out yet. It was hypnotic and beautifully brutal—a sonic gut punch in the best way. It’s also the centerpiece of the Laurelverse she’s building, where moody pop, emotional honesty, and cinematic storytelling collide. The night continued with fan favorites like “Change” and “Appetite” before Laurel treated the crowd to an unreleased track, “Bitter.” The crowd was hooked. When it ended, someone yelled, “RELEASE IT!” and the whole place cracked up—but yeah, we were all thinking it.

Then came one of those moments you don’t forget. During “Only One,” Laurel came down into the crowd and asked everyone to raise their lights. Suddenly, the room was glowing, and it felt like time had stopped for a second. It was soft and magical and showed exactly why her shows feel different—she wants you there with her, in it. But just as we were all deep in our feelings, Laurel snapped us back into motion with the explosive opening of “45 Degrees.” The bass hit like a thunderclap, and suddenly, the entire room was in motion. The floor actually felt like it was trembling beneath us—people were jumping, dancing, screaming, totally giving in to the moment. It was like the walls had dissolved, and we were all at the center of some wild, electric storm.

And after “Life Worth Living,” Laurel laughed, realizing she’d gone off-script—“That wasn’t supposed to be the last one,” she grinned. What came next was a tender tribute to her fiancé in the crowd. She sang “Sun King” for him, her voice heavy with love, and in that moment, the room was still again—held captive in the beautiful moment. She slipped offstage for a dramatic exit, but the crowd instantly erupted—clapping, cheering, calling her back. We all knew what was coming. As soon as “Scream Drive Faster” kicked in, the room exploded. Everyone jumped, screamed the lyrics, and let go completely. “Take it all, take it all!” we shouted—and we meant it. The energy was unreal, the perfect ending to a night we didn’t want to end.

Laurel isn’t just performing; she’s creating something lasting. She commands the stage with a rare balance of elegance and power. As her Laurelverse continues to expand, one thing’s certain—she’s just getting started.
