The Wrecks (Nick Anderson, Nick Schmidt, Aaron Kelley, and Billy Nally) have always been a band that thrives on high-energy performances, razor-sharp lyrics, and an unshakable bond with their fans. Now, as they prepare to unleash the first half of their upcoming project, INSIDE, and embark on the INSIDE : OUTSIDE tour, the excitement is at an all-time high. Since their breakout with anthems like 'Favorite Liar' and 'Freaking Out', they’ve built a dedicated following drawn to their electric stage presence and unfiltered storytelling. With so much on the horizon, frontman Nick Anderson sat down with us—thanks to 1824—to unpack the album’s creative vision, the raw emotions behind the music, and the unpredictable chaos that makes their shows so special.

Before diving into the record itself, Nick reflected on what keeps his passion for music burning after a decade in the industry. For him, nothing tops the euphoric rush of finishing a song. “It's the pride in like, holy shit, I made that thing,” he said. “At the end of the night, or early morning, when I finish a song or even just a version of a demo, and I sit back while it exports—that is the top of the mountain for me.” His approach to music isn’t about chasing hits or trends; it’s about authenticity. “I can only make things that people connect with by connecting with it only for myself,” he explained. "I don't think that I would be able to write something that could reach people. And so the result of it is really validating and lovely.”
That deep sense of honesty is woven into INSIDE, a record born from creative frustration and personal isolation. “I spent the first year after our last album trying to write, and nothing felt right. And then, suddenly, it did,” Nick said. “I don’t leave my house much. I call myself a homebody, but it’s probably more than that. "INSIDE is about being locked away for so long where the outside world eventually starts growing in through the cracks of the walls, like mother nature is trying to set the score even or something.” That introspection is especially evident in "I Didn’t Used To", the album’s opener and the song he’s most excited for fans to hear. “It’s almost five minutes long but feels like three because it takes you on a journey. It’s the song I’ve been trying to write for years and the song I’ve been waiting my whole life to write.” We got a sneak peek, and trust us—it’s equal parts thought-provoking and anthemic, blending raw emotion with powerhouse production and killer guitars.

Of course, an album release is just half the story. With the INSIDE : OUTSIDE tour looming, The Wrecks are letting fans have a say in their setlist. Through their Discord, they held a battle royale of sorts, letting fans vote on which songs should be swapped out to make room for new ones. Beyond the music, Nick also shared some wild fan interactions, like the time a girl proposed to her boyfriend mid-show—only for him to say no. “There’s just a lot of things that happen throughout the shows that change every night, and leaving room for that is important."
And while many artists look forward to the adrenaline rush of touring, Nick’s most anticipated part? Sleep. “I’m not joking—when I go on tour, I’m looking forward to just being in my bunk from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day, sleeping a gross amount of hours, resetting my brain.” But it’s not just the rest he’s excited about—it’s the fever dreams that come with it. “The dreams I’m going to have are going to be crazy. Like, ‘I’ve been in this thing for too long’ crazy.”
As INSIDE nears its release and The Wrecks prepare to hit the road, it’s clear that this chapter of the band is one of deep self-reflection, bold creative risks, and an even stronger connection with their fans. Nick Anderson’s candid approach to songwriting, his willingness to embrace the highs and lows, and the band’s ever-evolving sound make INSIDE one of their most intriguing projects yet. One thing is for sure—whether through their music, their unpredictable live shows, or even Nick’s dream-fueled tour naps, The Wrecks are making this era one to remember.
